Home - Cities Of India - Udaipur

Udaipur is a very tranquil and romantic Indian city. The presence of beautiful sightseeing attractions shrouded with natural scenes has prompted the tourism ministry to shape this city into commercial tourism centre. Despite being the epicentre of tourism, the city has still not lost its earlier charms. A trip to the city really proves worthwhile when it is made during rainy season. The reason is that during the heavy rainy season, the beautiful lake Pichola is filled up that creates attractive natural scenes. There is another lake called Jagniwas Island blended with series of beautiful marble temples and other cute structures presenting eye-catching view of the location.

The city is well equipped with Tourist Reception Centre at Fateh Memorial Building. This is meant for supplying tourism information to the tourists visiting this city. Further, the city is a par of Royal Indian state of Rajasthan.

Also known as the city of dawn, Udaipur is encompassed with Aravali Mountains and located on the corner of three lakes. It presents kaleidoscopic view of narrow lanes flanked by shining stalls, gardens, beautiful temples, awesome palaces and lakes.

A trip to Udaipur will give you opportunity to see beautiful Lake Palace, overlooking the lake Pichola. The entire ambiance is a tuneful arrangement of patios, pavilions, terraces and hanging gardens. The city palace houses several architectural and artistic highlights out of which the Mor Chowk also famous for its awesome peacock mosaics. The Bhim Villas inside the palace consists of series of beautiful wall paintings.

In addition to that, a tour to Udaipur will let you experience with memorable sightseeing attractions such as lake palaces, Jag Niwas known as summer residence of the princes of Mewar, the island palace, Jag Mandir caste in red stone. Moving further you will see Sajjangarh located on a hilltop outside Udaipur. This was a famous dramatic 18th century palace presenting awesome view of Mewar countryside. The palace was initially intended for five storey astronomical centre but later it was postponed and used as a hunting lodge and monsoon palace.

Fairs & Festivals

At 3 km away from Udaipur you will see Shilp Gram (The Craft Market). The place greatly houses the art and craft of all the states coming from western India. On each year in December 15, a 10-day of festival is organised here by the Directorate of Tourism to extend village crafts to all visitors.

The Mewar festival is held on April 7-8 to welcome the onset of spring. This festival is a visual feast celebrated with Rajasthani folksongs, dances, processions and devotional music and so on.
